Thursday, February 20th, all of us who work with Helping A Hero were honored to welcome CPL Thomas Counihan, IV home.
Growing up in South Florida, CPL Thomas Counihan was passionate about being in the water. He was awarded a full-ride Florida Bright Future Scholarship as captain of his swim team then at the age of 19 joined the United States Army as a Combat Engineer.
After basic training, Thomas was assigned to Fort Polk with the 4th BSTB 10th Mountain Division. Soon after, he was deployed to Logar, Afghanistan as a Route Clearing Package (RCP). On May 8th, 2011, his truck was hit by an IED that took his right leg.
Helping A Hero stepped in to help. Partnering with businesses in the community, they are building a new home for CPL Counihan. Usually, the veterans are asked to pay a $50,000 mortgage but in this case, Lennar is picking up the bill. The house will make his mobility easier with wider door frames and hallways, nonslip tile, a larger open kitchen, and more.
Joining us at this heartfelt event were: Tate Stevens (Country Music Artist), Robert Davi (Actor), Michael Meyers (Division President), SSG Shilo Harris (Helping A Hero Ambassador), Carlos Gonzalez (Regional Vice President), SPC J.P Lane (Helping A Hero Ambassador), and SSgt Daniel Gilyeat (Helping A Hero Ambassador).
